NGCI and the NGCI Board of Director’s welcome Youth Advisory member to the Board.

MASKWACIS, AB – The Neyaskweyahk Group of Companies Inc. (NGCI) and the NGCI Board of Directors are pleased to welcome Mr. Brayden Omeasoo-Steinhauer as the new Youth Advisory, effective November 8, 2021.

Brayden grew up in the Ermineskin community, apart from a few years of his childhood when he and his family lived in Saddle Lake. Brayden’s parents are Carolyn (Melanie) Omeasoo-Steinhauer from Ermineskin Cree Nation and Russell Steinhauer from Saddle Lake Cree Nation, he is the middle child of seven siblings and a proud grandson of the late Evelyn Omeasoo.

Brayden received his Alberta High School Diploma from Ermineskin Junior Senior High School in 2019. He formally attended NAIT and attended a Business Management Certificate program with an Entrepreneurship distinction, Brayden is now studying Indigenous Education at Maskwacis Cultural College and is currently in his second year towards his Bachelor of Education.

In the summer of 2021, Brayden was part of the International Aboriginal Youth Internship (IAYI) offered by Canada World Health. The International Aboriginal Youth Internships Initiative (IAYI) offers Indigenous Canadian youth the opportunity to gain professional experience abroad in the field of international development. It helps them to acquire skills that will prepare them for future employment or further their studies.

Growing up, Brayden was involved in many Volleyball clubs and school teams, therefore he knows what it is like to appreciates wins and losses. Now he is often the referee for games in our school district and coach for Nipsihkopahk Secondary School’s volleyball team.

Brayden values relationships with everyone, and everything; wahkohtowin. He say’s whenever he helps someone or contributes to something, these moments will always be his greatest accomplishments. Reconnecting with his Cree culture is one of Brayden’s life goals, he is on the path of learning to develop as a fluent Cree speaker, once developed Brayden hopes to promote and contribute to language revitalization.

NGCI and the NGCI Board of Directors look forward to working and collaborating with Mr. Brayden Omeasoo-Steinhauer as the new Youth Advisory for youth of Ermineskin Cree Nation and the community of Maskwacis.
